Volunteerism in the last year as a moderator between empathy and altruistic social value orientation: an exploratory study

Introduction Volunteerism is a sustained prosocial activity, and young adults are one of the most important targets for organizations recruiting volunteers. Empathy altruistic social value orientation measured by decomposed game dispositional traits that might foster engagement in volunteerism. Material methods Using self-report online-based questionnaire study on two groups (aged 18-35, N = 224 non-volunteers 178 volunteers last year) relationship between empathy both these was explored. Results The results showed scored significantly higher than non-volunteers. In non-volunteers, positively linked to orientation, whereas inversed. Conclusions provide evidence volunteers, when high empathy, not necessarily be ready share financial resources with others, as operationalized game.
